Amsterdam school

Amsterdam school
During the years 1910–1925 an artistic movement in architecture blossomed in Amsterdam, inspired by European Expressionism (Bauhaus, Weimar) and Frank Lloyd Wright. Its leading architects, Michel de Klerk (1884–1923) and Pieter Lodewijk Kramer (1881–1961), proclaimed individualistic and l’art pour l’artprinciples against the most famous architect, Hendrik Berlage. Danish influences can clearly be seen in the work of the Amsterdam School, for example, in the elegant spires and small stained-glass windows.
